 Computerisation

Computerisation

Improving urban administration through computerisation and increasing transparency and efficiency is a priority in Karnataka. Computerisation has been taken up in phases. Public Grievance, property tax and birth and death registers will be computerised first. Ward works, payrolls and water supply billing will be computerised in the next phase.

With these do-able schemes the Government wants to provide a better living environment from citizens, as well as a strong, accountable and efficient municipal system.

1. Property Taxes Reforms And Property Related GIS

This scheme looks at implementing the self-assessment scheme for property tax by  enabling the use of the Municipal Geographic Information System(MGIS). This system uses a map-linked database for urban areas management. A survey of all properties in each town or city has been conducted  to develop authentic information for use in collection of house tax. An awareness campaign will then inform the public about access to retrievable information in the database. The database will also be used for further value addition and for planning growth of urban areas. The MGIS will, therefore, map properties; all public and private institutions; all networks related to sewage, water supply, waste management, electricity and telephones etc., to compile complete database.                                                                       more >>
